From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a supernatural agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. Aspects of religion include narrative, symbolism, beliefs, and practices that are supposed to give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life. Whether the meaning centers on a deity or deities, or an ultimate truth, religion is commonly identified by the practitioner's prayer, ritual, meditation, music and art, among other things, and is often interwoven with society and politics. It may focus on specific supernatural, metaphysical, and moral claims about reality (the cosmos and human nature) which may yield a set of religious laws, ethics, and a particular lifestyle. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction. "Religion" is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system," but it is more socially defined than personal convictions, and it entails specific behaviors, respectively. GNU Free Documentation License How was religion religion used to help build empires with the Romans and Greeks? Q. I did some reading on my art history book and it says something about how the empires back then used to use religion to fool the people into building empires. It has to do something with beliefs and whatever. Asked by bap32211 - Sun Nov 22 17:38:46 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. That's a very crude way of putting it, but basically its correct. The purpose of all religion is to make group of people A do what group of people B want them to. Therefore, if you tell people the/a God will be happy with them if they build temples, or celebrate days, or build colliseums, they will. The Roman Empire fell because people started converting to christianity which preached polar opposite values (love, tolerance, etc) to the Roman pantheon (strength, power, dominance, honour) and became the Byzantinian Empire. Answered by Caolan C - Sun Nov 22 17:45:20 2009 How did religion acquire its extraordinary immunity against normal levels of criticism and logic? Q. Why are you considered a 'baddie' by many if you dare to criticize and point out inconsistencies. What happened and when? Why should it be considered wrong to say 'It's a fallacy' or use words like delusion, cruelty, indoctrinated etc when speaking about religion. Asked by Nikonf5 - Tue Sep 15 07:17:49 2009 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yeah. I find it interesting that some people can accept (and even believe) without question the story of God flooding the Earth and killing all but a select few animals/humans without complaint (not to single out Christianity, just an example we're all familiar with, I assume), while almost starting a riot at the mere thought of Hitler massacring jews. My only explanation? Indoctrination. (Here comes the thumbs down) Answered by Cross - Tue Sep 15 07:23:58 2009 What religion would a child be if the parents followed different religions?
Q. For example if a male Hindu married a female Christian what religion would their child be? Do they become the father's religion? Just wondering Asked by Harry - Wed Apr 29 08:08:13 2009 - - 10 Answers - 1 Comments A. There is no automatic ruling. While the parents decide which, if either, faith to teach the child. Once an adult it is his/her own decision.
